Life sometimes rocks us gently and then at times, it grabs us and rolls us at the speed of sound; so much is happening, we barely have space to feel all it stirs on the inside. Busy days, intense days, or downright difficult times.
To prevent turning them into long-term baggage, I make it a critical task to find a few moments to quiet down and process. To insist on my small peaceful rituals and little pauses. To honor my favorite habits.
What helps me get through life's rough patches? Steal as many of my little hacks as you wish.
-
Mindful Start of the Day
Your first waking moments are a special time - it's when you tell your brain what to look for in your day. Before you open your eyes, welcome the day with peaceful thoughts, revisit happy memories and places that make you feel safe.
-
Bedtime Rituals
Is it difficult to stop the eternal dialogue in your head when trying to fall asleep? Create a calming nighttime ritual to quiet your mind down – bath or shower, 10 skincare minutes, a breathing exercise. A personal optimistic mantra to fall asleep with ("things are going to a very good place").
-
Present Eating
When you're eating, eat. Just eat. Pay attention to the smells and textures, chew properly and enjoy every bite. We all know it's next to impossible when children are around – try to steal at least one peaceful meal a day, you'll be surprised by the outcome.
-
Move Your Body
Unthinkable to find a real timeslot for a real workout? Stretch like a cat – in bed or in a chair. Walking to the car? Skip. Skipping is a forgotten childhood pleasure that instantly increases my energy – give it a try! Climb on top of your desk, stand still for a minute and see what the effect is. And dance. My favorite dances take place in the bathroom when keeping bath-time company to my daughter, in the kitchen while cooking, anywhere when cleaning.
-
Close Your Eyes
Escape from the world for two minutes, simply shut it down and breathe. I promise you'll come back refreshed.
-
Sing Along
In the car, in the shower. Sing along to your favorite meaningful songs and give it your all.
-
Tears Wash It Off
Last but not least, cry. You deserve your compassion. Nothing like giving yourself a hug and a few comforting words.
Hope these will help you ease any stressful days you might be going through 🤍
With love,
Emily Williams
